Claude Canvas

A TUI toolkit that gives Claude Code its own display. Spawn interactive terminal interfaces for calendars, documents, flight tracking, weather, system monitoring, and more.

Terminal Support

| Terminal | Mode | Platform | Setup | | --------------------- | ---------- | -------- | -------------------------------- | | iTerm2 | Split pane | macOS | Just run in iTerm2 | | tmux | Split pane | All | Start a tmux session | | Apple Terminal | New window | macOS | Just run (window auto-positions) | | Git Bash | New window | Windows | Run in Git Bash (uses mintty) | | Windows Terminal | Split pane | Windows | Run in Windows Terminal |

The canvas automatically detects your terminal and uses the appropriate method.

How It Works

iTerm2 / tmux / Windows Terminal: Creates a side-by-side split pane

┌─────────────────────┬─────────────────────┐
│ Claude Code │ Canvas │
│ (your terminal) │ (tracker/weather/…) │
└─────────────────────┴─────────────────────┘

Apple Terminal / Git Bash: Opens a new window (no native split support)

┌─────────────────────┐ ┌─────────────────────┐
│ Your Terminal │ │ Canvas Window │
│ (Claude Code) │ │ (mintty on Windows) │
└─────────────────────┘ └─────────────────────┘
      Left half Right half

Session Reuse

Canvas tracks open panes/windows and reuses them for subsequent spawns instead of creating new ones.

This project builds upon excellent prior work:

Windows/Git Bash Support

All code and documentation for porting claude-canvas to Windows/Git Bash was generated by Claude Code powered by Claude Opus 4.5. This includes:

  • TCP socket IPC (replacing Unix sockets)
  • Terminal detection and spawning via mintty
  • Bidirectional path conversion (Windows ↔ Unix)
  • Comprehensive porting documentation
